Employee Spotlight: Tim Pheland

What is your name and position within Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence?
Tim Pheland, Manufacturing Engineer at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence

How did you get into this line of work?

As a child, I was always interested in how things are designed and made. Tinkering and taking things apart was always a big thing with me as a child, so it felt natural to go into an engineering field once the time came. I like to be a hands-on person, so with a degree from the University of Rhode Island in Industrial and Systems Engineering, it made sense to start my career in the field of manufacturing engineering.

What does your day to day look like atHexagon? Describe a day in the life.

A common day in my position entails working hand in hand with the part manufacturing team to ensure that all the systems in place are efficient, safe and productive. This involves everything from CNC program efficiency to basic hand tools. I am also responsible for ensuring that our work standards are accurate and that the documentation of our work instructions in that area are clear and concise.

What are your future goals?
My future goals are to ensure that my current responsibilities are fully met and with the recognition that comes along with that, I hope to further advance my career within Hexagon and meet any ofHexagon’s future necessities.

How does it feel to be an SME 30 Under 30 Award Recipient?
I am honored to be chosen as an SME 30 Under 30 Award recipient. I am happy to bring this type of recognition to the entire Part Manufacturing team and Manufacturing Engineering team here at Hexagon. I have received a lot of help along the way in this infancy of my career, and I would just like to thank everyone involved.

What do you do for fun outside of working at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence?

Outside of Hexagon, I enjoy all things cars (mostly European) and all types of BBQing. I also enjoy playing golf and watching football. I appreciate all types of music, and sometimes play the drums. In my spare time, I also enjoy hosting and having fun with my friends and family.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

If I wasn’t a Manufacturing Engineer, I think that I wouldn’t mind trying to be a Chef.
