Employee Spotlight – Scott Zanio

How did you get into this line of work?
By accident… my wife had a friend that worked at what was then Hexagon metrology in Lake Forest, California. We were informed they were looking for engineers. I already had a good job, but when I visited the precision center for the interview, I became hooked.

What does your day to day look like at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence?

I wake up, read 15-20 emails, put out a few quick fires, and get on the road to visit new and existing customers. I could be standing on an F-35 fuselage in the morning and then holding a knee implant by noon. The job is never the same, and is always interesting.

What are your future goals?

My future goals are to continue building customer relationships and solving problems with the array of Hexagon products. We have a fantastic team in the West and I look forward to the new staffdevelopments.

How does it feel to be this year’s recipient of the Accelerate! Award for Employee Engagement?
Surprised!!! I had no idea I was up for an award, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to receive such an honor.

In your opinion, what is the 1 reason why someone should attend HxGN LIVE?
That is a very hard question to answer because there are so many reasons to go. HxGN LIVE is an amazing event in so many ways. I would say seeing the wide range of solutions that we offer our customers. My customers thanked me many times for giving them the opportunity to see what can be done by stepping back and looking at the global picture, not just using metrology as pass/fail devices. To use all our systems to make an efficient closed loop process… that is the Hexagon advantage.

What do you do for fun outside of working at Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence?

Mountain biking, snowboarding, modifying anything with a motor, and spending time with my beautiful wife and three amazing children.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?
From 4th to 8th grade, I took violin to get out of science class. It’s funny how things change. Now I enjoy going to places like SpaceX, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Northrop Grumman, and other technical places.
