India gets a new vision of engineering simulation

Simulation has come a long way over the last seven decades and is now indispensable to the product development process. Today, we are on the cusp of an industrial revolution, brought about by self-driving vehicles, smart connected technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI). All fueled by the rise of simulation technologies.

To make these technologies even more accessible in India, we have launched a customer experience centre equipped with MSC’s Virtual Test Drive (VTD) simulator and a virtual walkthrough on simulation problems solved with Cradle Software. It showcases how immersive virtual reality (VR) technology can be used to understand complex simulated phenomena.

The Centre will have several experience zones for Hexagon’s products, including MSC’s Virtual Test Drive (VTD) solution and AR/VR simulation. The first part of this experience centre focuses on developing autonomous vehicles. The future of autonomous technology hinges on how deeply its potential adopters can experience and understand its strengths and limitations. To be able to drive and behave like a human driver (or better), an autonomous vehicle needs to drive a billion miles in a realistic and high-fidelity representation of the environment. It is here that MSC’s VTD simulator comes in, and provides a complete toolchain to simulate vehicle driving applications. The tool simplifies deep and complex engineering simulations of virtual environments for road and rail simulations. Several companies globally and in India are already using VTD for the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and to create real-world scenarios for vehicle driver training simulators.

The second part of the Centre is an immersive virtual reality experience zone showcasing the powerful capabilities of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) suite products from Cradle Software. The Customer Experience centre is designed to allow visitors to understand first-hand the capabilities of simulation along with AR/VR to help solve CFD challenges. For example, it will enable a viewer to virtually fly over skyscrapers to understand how the wind is channeled and to see air flows inside a room to understand the effectiveness of simulated air-conditioning. You can also look around a graphics card to understand which components are at risk of overheating or thermal fatigue! This way of understanding and experiencing simulation models helps engineers conceptualise design choices better.

Our VR zone is designed to provide a truly immersive experience that will aid better design and engineering by including stakeholders through every stage of development. The centre offers customers a gateway into promising new technologies and we welcome anyone who can visit our site in Pune, India to book a visit and experience the future with our team of experts.
